In 2003, he left Conran to form his own consultancy which as it has grown has become Richard Chapman Studio. The company has gone on to design for high-profile clients such as The Royal Society of Arts, Fulham Palace, Rosewood London, St Paul's Cathedral, The British Academy, the Parliamentary Advisory group Policy Connect and high street retail chain Oddbins, as well as many clients who have been working with the company since its inception.
In 2015, fulfilling a long-held ambition, Richard moved the business to its own space on the King's Road in the heart of the Chelsea Design District. The following year, the studio won a coveted Print Industry Solutions Award for their work on behalf of the Stationers' Company. Richard never imagined starting a design consultancy, never mind employing people, so the fact that it has worked out that way continues to surprise, delight and occasionally terrify him.
